Safeguarding of Vulnerable persons

REPORT A SFEGUARDING CONCERN OR ABUSE

A ‘Vulnerable person’ can be any child (a person under the age of 18) or an adult who has vulnerabilities.

I this context the person can be a member of our society or anyone else who is affected by our acts or omissions.

In accordance with UK Law and the requirements of our insurers, we have put in place measures to safeguard vulnerable persons against abuse by our members or any volunteer working on our behalf.

Our safeguarding Policy is below We have a legal duty of care to vulnerable persons.

All our members have a legal duty of care to children and vulnerable adults whilst engaged in angling associated activities on our waters.

All our members and volunteers have similar duty of care under the rules of this society.

All our members must make themselves conversant with these duties. They can be viewed in the link here https://anglingtrust.net/safeguarding/safeguarding-policies/

We have appointed committee member Matthew Coombes as our ‘Club Welfare Officer’ or CWO.

For anyone needing to report an incident of abuse or anyone who has reason to suspect that abuse might be taking place, Matthew is the person within our society to contact. Matthew is here to assist the complainant in recording and passing on the details to a team of experts. Matthew will not divulge any information given in confidence to any other person other the appointed expert at the Angling Trust.

Matthew Coombes can be contacted via his email, mcoombes@monmouthfishing.co.uk

Safeguarding of children and Vulnerable Adults. Our Policy.

Monmouth and District Angling Society.

Policy statement.

Safeguarding young people and adults at risk.

Our responsibilities.

We at Monmouth and District Angling Society (M & D A S) acknowledge that we all have a legal duty of care to safeguard the welfare of young persons (under the age of 18) and vulnerable adults, while they are fishing our waters, enabling them to enjoy their sport in a safe environment without abuse or discrimination.

Our policies and actions described here follow the recommendations for safeguarding vulnerable people, both young people and adults, published by the Angling Trust. Bearing in mind that our members usually fish alone, and mostly without any contact with other members or staff, there will be limitations to how effectively we can monitor or influence their everyday angling activities. We will, however, act with the best intentions, and so far as is reasonably practica,l to uphold our duties prescribed below.

We aim to ensure that all our members are aware of their responsibilities in these matters and will act accordingly to provide a safe environment for all young and adult members engaged in angling-related activities on M & D A S controlled waters.

We will endeavour to identify, report and record all observations or reports of incidents of abuse while maintaining the confidentiality and due privacy of the persons concerned.

Members and parents of our junior members can contact us about any concerns they have. These should be addressed to our societies’ welfare officer or CWO. He is Matthew  Coombes. He can be contacted at mattcbs1972@gmail.com or via the link on our website. https://monmouthfishing.co.uk/report-abuse-or-safeguarding-concerns-2/

We will act under our responsibilities in line with the best practices prescribed by the Angling Trust to ensure the best safeguarding principles are upheld to protect vulnerable people under our care.

M & D A S will provide the opportunity for, and expect all our members to understand our legal duties of care to vulnerable persons. This information is available on our website and links to relevant Angling Trust documents online. See the links below.

M & D A S will prevent unsuitable persons from having contact with our members who have vulnerabilities.

Children, Young persons under 18.

Persons under the age of 18 will be afforded the extra protection due to them. We welcome and actively encourage young people to join our organisation where we will do our best to ensure they experience a safe and enjoyable environment free from abuse or discrimination. We will always welcome their views listen to and respect what our junior members have to say and take every opportunity to provide them with every opportunity to enhance their skills and experience. As part of this extra protection, our rules require that junior members be accompanied by a parent or a responsible adult whilst angling on M & D A S waters. The adult will be the primary source of protection and safeguarding for the young persons in their care.
