I thought that I was pushing my luck at Treowen today, (Thursday October 18th) but I need not have worried. Late in the season though it is for this lake, two good tench and two more that unhooked themselves in the weed, and plenty of pretty rudd, made for a worthwhile day out in these tranquil surroundings. Three species of dragon fly, some red ones settling on my arm and hand, made me feel wellcome again. And I had all this to myself.
Rudd are usually a fish a chuck here in the summer and we expect them to slow down before October, but today they came to corn or worm regularly, albeit not as frequently as in the summer, which made every one of them more valued.
This may be the last week this year that we can enjoy fishing here like this but it never ceases to surprise. With a bit more warm weather, water 13 degrees today, it could go on for longer.
